South African team were dealt a crucial blow today as premier fast bowler Morne Morkel has been ruled out of the current Test match due to a Grade I ligament tear on his ankle which also makes him doubtful for the ‘Boxing Day’ Test in Durban starting December 26.
As per the information received, Morkel has been advised rest for around 10 days which effectively rules him out of the next Test match also.
Morkel took three for 34 in 23 overs during the Indian first innings as easily looked the best of the trio. The incident happened in the second ball of the 14th over as Pujara tucked Steyn towards fine leg for a couple.
As Morkel sprinted from his position at the boundary line, the right foot got stuck and the ankle twisted. While the hefty fast bowler returned the ball to the keeper, he was down on the ground crying for help. The team support staff then carried the bowler off the ground.
