South African fast bowler Morne Morkel lauded bowling coach Allan Donald, saying his understanding of New Zealand conditions is turning out to be vital on tour.
The visitors started well in the limited overs version, winning the T20 series first and then taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Morkel, who was adjudged Man of the Match for his five-wicket haul in South Africa’s win in the second ODI on Wednesday, said Donald definitely played a big part in their success.
“Allan is very good with the bowlers. Due to his previous involvement with New Zealand (Donald was the Kiwis’ bowling coach last year) he obviously knows the conditions. His knowledge is awesome for us,” Morkel told the Volksbladnewspaper.
Morkel added that he was happy to come to the forefront in the match at Napier and is looking forward to their next game at Auckland.
He feels the conditions will be suitable as the ball skids through more there and the bowlers also get a lot of bounce.

He did, however, note that bowlers also have to be cautious as the Eden Park is a very small ground.
