The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Sanjay Patel said that skipper MS Dhoni did not cross the line when he said that Duncan Fletcher is still the boss and he will lead India in to the ICC World Cup 2015.
“There is nothing to dissect on Dhoni’s statement. He has stated the fact. Fletcher is contracted till the World Cup and the skipper has not said anything more than that. He did not cross the line,” Patel was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.
On August 24, a day before the first One-Day International, Dhoni had said in the press conference: “He (Duncan Fletcher) will lead us into the World Cup. Also he is still the boss. We have Ravi Shastri who will look into everything, but Fletcher is the boss. It’s not as if his powers or his position have been curtailed. I don’t know what you feel from the outside, but operations still remain the same.”
The statement did not go down well with the board who later reacted that Dhoni can’t decide the coach of India. The board was planning to seek a clarification from Dhoni which Patel said was not on the cards when the working committee meets next. “There are no issues with his comments and we don’t intend to discuss the issue at any platform – be it the working committee or general body,” Patel said.
