When MS Dhoni slammed Shane Watson over deep extra-cover to reach fifty against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, he went past Kumar Sangakkara’s tally of 465. Dhoni, currently on 473, now has the most runs by a wicketkeeper-captain in the history of World Cups. India crashed to a 95-run defeat at the hands of Australia in the semi-final, getting bowled out for 233 after letting Australia finish on a score of 328 for the loss of seven wickets. Barring Dhoni (473 runs at 59.12 at the time of writing this article) and Sangakkara (465 runs at 93.00), the other wicketkeeper-captains to score over a hundred runs in World Cup cricket are Alec Stewart (303 at 37.87), Brendan Taylor (259 with 129.50), Ashish Bagai (225 at 45.00), and Lee Germon (191 at 63.67).
