India’s limited-overs skipper, MS Dhoni, got hit by the bail in trying to send the ball out of the park in the ongoing final T20I between India and Zimbabwe. Batting first, India were struggling for momentum with the score at 93 for 4 at the start of the 16th over when Donald Tiripano came into bowl. Dhoni missed the first ball trying to accelerate in the last few overs of the innings and came down the track in the next ball when he inside edged the ball onto the stumps. The ball hit the stumps and the bails went flying and hit the eye of Dhoni. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Zimbabwe , Live Score, 3rd T20I Match at Harare
In the end, Dhoni recovered quickly and made the long way back to the pavilion. He was damn lucky as the same thing had happened with South Africa’s former wicketkeeper-batsman, Mark Boucher during South Africa’s tour of England in 2012. In South Africa’s first warm up match before the commencement of the tour, they were playing Somerset. A googly, bowled by Imran Tahir, outfoxed the Somerset batsman and it struck Boucher in the left eye. He was diagnosed with a lacerated eyeball and had to return to South Africa as soon as possible. It cut short Boucher’s career but fortunately the injury for Dhoni is not that sever, as of now.
The 34-year-old, Dhoni really was lucky as he was quick to recover but speaking of his performance with the bat, it remained unimpressive. He scored 9 off 13 balls with a single boundary and was not successful to play a good cameo for his side when they were struggling for momentum against a disciplined bowling by Zimbabwe.
