Former India skipper MS Dhoni, along with South Africa’s Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith, was among the seven new inductees into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame on Monday.

Australia’s Matthew Hayden, New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori, former Pakistan captain Sana Mir, and England’s Sarah Taylor were also honoured with the prestigious induction.

“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world,” said Dhoni, who featured in this year’s Indian Premier League aged 43.

Dhoni made his ODI debut on 23 December 2004 against Bangladesh. His international career had a shaky start, as he was run out for a duck on the very first ball. However, he quickly bounced back, announcing his arrival in style by smashing 148 runs against Pakistan in just his fifth ODI, played in Visakhapatnam.

Dhoni led India to 2011 ODI World Cup victory on home-soil, he played an unbeaten innings of 91 runs in 79 balls against Sri Lanka in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup. And India won the ODI World Cup after 28 years.

He remains the only captain to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies. Under his leadership, India clinched the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and later lifted the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Dhoni ended his ODI career with over 10,000 runs with an average of above 50. He played 350 matches which included 10 centuries and 73 half-centuries. Dhoni made 829 catches behind the wicket. He is at number three in this list. He made 634 catches and 195 stumps.
