MS Dhoni: Ready to step down as captain for India’s welfare

Dhoni made the comments at the press conference after the 2nd India-Bangladesh ODI.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stated that he would be happy to step aside from his role as the One-Day International (ODI) captain of the Indian cricket team, if it led to the welfare of his team. Dhoni was quoted as making the statement, which had a hint of sarcasm in it, at a press conference following a six-wicket defeat in the second match of the three-ODI series against Bangladesh. “Everyone says that all bad things in Indian cricket happen because of me. I’m happy to step aside if that will mean that India does well,” Dhoni was quoted as saying after being served a volley of questions during the press meet.India have lost their first ever bilateral series to Bangladesh, and the ODI skipper is expected to be answerable for a wide variety of questions for the same.

India were outplayed by Bangladesh once again as they conceded a six-wicket loss to the hosts to surrender an unbeatable 0-2 series. Pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who made a sparkling debut in the first game with a five-wicket haul, starred once again with the ball as he took six wickets for 43 runs to help dismiss India for a lowly 200. The Bangladeshis in reply, lost the wicket of Tamim Iqbal early in their innings, but were propelled by useful knocks by Soumya Sarkar and Litton Das.
