India have gone into tea on Day One of the fifth Test against England at 125 for nine. Through the struggles against the England pace-battery, MS Dhoni has stood tall and recorded a brave fifty to bring some respectability to India. It has been a very tough day for them at the office.
Resuming after lunch at 43 for five, it only went downhill as Stuart Binny edged one soon after. Ravichandran Ashwin did play decently and looked assured. However, he became yet another victim in the slips when he edged one to Joe Root.
Dhoni batted brilliantly. He left deliveries with discipline and attacked whenever the opportunity presented itself. Wickets kept tumbling at the other end, but Dhoni remained calm and got to his half century. It was a very good innings under the circumstances.
India do face a huge task ahead of them and after tea, they have a mountain to climb. Dhoni does give them a glimmer of hope. Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan have taken three wickets apiece so far.
Brief scores:
India 125 for 9 (MS Dhoni 65*, Murali Vijay 18; Chris Jordan 3 for 30, Chris Woakes 3 for 32) vs England.
