MS Dhoni stepped down as India’s limited overs captain late on Wednesday, setting the media abuzz and ensuring the scribes had a long day at office. He left the captaincy of the shorter formats exactly how he had left the Test captaincy; without any fanfare. Even as tweets on him broke the internet, the former Indian captain stayed far away from the entire hullabaloo, as he was busy playing Playstation with his Jharkhand teammates in Nagpur (source: tweet from cricket journalist Shashank Kishore). While even the people considered close to him remained unaware of his decision, it is hard to predict whether his better half Sakshi Rawat knew about it.

Even as Dhoni stayed away from media, Sakshi took to her official Twitter handle to comment on the development. Sakshi praised her husband through her tweet, in which she wrote: “@msdhoni There are no mountains high enough to stop you from climbing. Proud of you!!” The former first lady of Indian cricket did not shy away from expressing her emotions on this occasion as she threw her weight behind her husband’s decision, hinting Dhoni had perhaps achieved it all in international cricket. At the time of filing this report, Sakshi’s tweet had already been retweeted over 1,600 times and liked over 3,000 times. Here’s her tweet:

Dhoni’s decision to step down as ODI and T20I captain was conveyed by BCCI. The Indian board also said the inspirational wicketkeeping-batsman would still be available for selection for the upcoming series against England but did not say who would replace him as captain. He is however expected to be succeeded by Virat Kohli, who took over as Test skipper after Dhoni retired from the format in December 2014. He has so far played 283 ODIs, with a batting average of nearly 51 while he has also appeared in 73 T20 internationals.
