Abhinav Mukund slammed a double hundred while Dinesh Karthik and K Vasudevadas scored a century each as Tamil Nadu piled up a mammoth 693 for eight on day two of their Elite division Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat on Wednesday.
Resuming on their overnight score of 288 for two, Tamil Nadu dominated the show all day as Mukund notched up a monumental 220 off 349 balls, an effort that came in 430 minutes and included 34 boundaries and two sixes.
Karthik and Vasudevadas also feasted on Gujarat bowlers, scoring 135 (216 balls) and 105 (150) respectively, on what appears to be a flat track at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera.
While Karthik’s 217-minute knock was laced with 15 fours and two sixes, Vasudevadas hit 13 boundaries during the 222 minutes he was at the crease.
S Badrinath had yesterday scored 102.
Ramaswamy Prasanna contributed 69 as the visitors scored more than 400 runs on the second day of this Group B match.
Mukund and Karthick added 190 runs for the third wicket and there was a century partnership (132 runs for the fifth wicket) between Vasudevadas and Prasanna as well.
Mukund was 150 not out overnight while Karthik was batting on 25.
For the second day running, Gujarat bowlers toiled on the field, and their figures reflect that.
Barring Jasel Karia, who returned figures of three for 86, all the other struggled.(PTI)
Brief scores: Tamil Nadu 693 for 8 (Abhinav Mukund 220, Dinesh Karthik 135, Vasudevadas 105, S Badrinath 102; Karia 3 for 86) vs Gujarat
