Following the 20-run victory over Gujarat Titans in the eliminator match of the Indian Premier League 2025, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene spoke about the team has won a lot of matches over the years, and this winning culture has helped the players in performing well during high-pressure situations.
Mumbai Indians have already won the IPL title five times, and are now making their way to what seems to be their sixth success in the tournament.
Mahela Jayawardene shared his thoughts on the team’s successful campaign this season, and shared his thoughts on what helps the team in bringing out the desired results on the big stage.
“Well, when you have a winning culture, it is easier to try and have that same thing going through. Even when you get a new group, we still have a very experienced co-group within our ranks,” Mahela said.
“So, the conversations that we have, planning and everything is about, how can we get better, how can we push through,” he said referring to the core including Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Bumrah, who have been part of the team’s successful campaigns over the years.
“That winning mentality itself comes through from those senior players and having that experience, guys who have won trophies does help and my job is to try and cultivate that for the new guys who are coming into the spot,” he further said.
“After the big auction, we had quite a few new faces, but I think telling them about the history of Mumbai and how we go, how we operate and have that attitude that we will never die from a situation, we will always fight through. So, I think that is shown today,” concluded the Sri Lankan great.
Mumbai Indians won over Gujarat Titans on May 30, securing their place in the Qualifier-2 match of the Indian Premier League 2025, and will now be facing Punjab Kings on June 1st at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have already secured their place in the finals, and the winner of the second qualifier match will be the team that will face RCB for the title. The title deciding clash is going to be held on June 3rd.
