Hosts Mumbai virtually ensured their berth in the finals of the U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy as they ended day three of their four-day semi-final match against Uttar Pradesh with an overall lead of 330 runs with eight second innings wickets still in hand.

After making 386 in their first innings, the hosts bowled out Uttar Pradesh for 273 to gain a lead of 113 runs.

Left-arm pacer Atif Attarwala ended with figures of 4-46 for the hosts, while Kuldeep Yadav top-scored with 70 (119b, 4×8, 6×1).

In their second essay, Mumbai made 217-2 thanks largely to a second wicket partnership of 153 between opener Akarshit Gomel and first-innings centurion Akhil Herwadkar.

Gomel completed his century and was unbeaten on 107 (160b, 4×14, 6×1), while Herwadkar was unlucky to miss his second century of the match by 12 runs.

His knock of 88 came in 122 balls and was studded with 10 fours and one six. (PTI)
