Murali Vijay scored his maiden ton in Tamil Nadu Premier League to lead Ruby Trichy Warriors to a 17-run victory over Tuti Patriots in tournament’s 24th match in Dindigul, yesterday. The veteran Tamil Nadu batsman had missed out on scoring a century in the previous match by just one run.

Batting first, Trichy put up a total of 177 on the board. Akshay Srinivasan’s 63 was not enough for Tuti Patriots as they fell short 17 runs to register their fourth defeat in six matches.

Trichy, earlier, lost opener K Mukunth early in the fifth over. Aditya Barooah failed to open his account and left the team reeling at a score of 27/2. Vijay and Adithya Ganesh took the charge from there on and put up 141 runs for the third wicket. The duo first repaired the early damage and saw Trichy cross the 150 run-mark in 17th over.

Vijay completed his maiden TNPL ton in the 19th over with a single. The combined efforts from the duo saw their side finish on a total of 177. V Athisayaraj Davidson (4-0-24-4) was the sole wicket-taker for Tuti.

Tuti openers V Subramania Siva (25 off 19) and Akshay Srinivasan fetched 41 for the first wicket in 5.4 overs before R Sai Kishore broke the opening partnership. Srinivasan continued to hold one end but got no support from the middle-order.

Wicket-keeper Nidhish Rajagopal (13 off 15), Vasanth Saravanan (12 off 5) and S Abishiek (3 off 9) failed to assist the opener that saw Srinivasan getting out in 17th over while attempting to play a big shot off Saravan Kumar. DT Chandrasekar (2/34) was the most successful bowler for Trichy, who registered their first win in six matches that they have played so far.

Brief Scores: Ruby Trichy Warriors 177/4 (Murali Vijay 101, Adithya Ganesh 56; V Athisayaraj Davidson 4/24) defeat Tuti Patriots 160/7 (Akshay Srinivasan 63, V Subramania Siva 25; DT Chandrasekar 2/34) by 17 runs.
