Bangladesh’s seamer Mustafizur Rahman has marked the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the year 2016 as his biggest gift of the year. The player was honoured for his performance in the period September 14, 2015 to September 20, 2016. The cricketer played 3 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) bagging 8 wickets and 10 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) to take 19 wickets. This makes his tally to 27 in 13 matches during the span across formats. Mustafizur got a contract in Indian Premier League (IPL) for the franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and was one of the reasons behind the team’s victorious run in the 2016 season. Mustafizur is the first Bangladeshi to get any major ICC award.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) published a video of Mustafizur with his reactions on winning the award. “I am happy to get the award. I dedicate this award to the Bangladesh cricket team and my fans. I want to thank all who helped me. This is the biggest gift I got this year and will motivate me to work harder. I once again thank all who helped me,” he told BCB. Rahman is the only Bangladeshi cricketer to win an award this year. International Cricket Council (ICC) acknowledged the best performers for the span with various awards.
