England’s county team Gloucestershire have signed Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan for this year’s domestic T20 championship.
Muralitharan played 15 First-Class T20 matches last year for Gloucestershire when he had joined on a two-season contract. The Sri Lankan ended the season as a joint top wicket-taker with 12 scalps.
Gloucestershire’s director of cricket, Tom Richardson was quoted in BBC as saying, “He did a lot for us last year.
“He’s not played over the winter. We hope that works well for us.”
Richardson feels Muralitharan’s presence is a huge bonus for the team as he has the ability to lift team’s morale.
He said, “What really impressed me last year is that he’s got time for everybody. He always gets huge applause and is one of the legends of the game.
“He lifts everybody in the dressing room. The youngsters can learn so much from him, as can everybody.
“He gave a lot, both on and off the field and is a delightful bloke so we’re really looking forward to him coming back.”
