Indian Premier League (IPL) petitioner Aditya Verma for the spot-fixing and betting controversies said he was happy with the Supreme Court’s observations on Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President N Srinivasan.
The Supreme Court said Srinivasan should step down from his post to ensure a fair probe in the IPL 2013 spot-fixing and betting controversies. This was after taking into account the Justice Mugdal Committee report.
“I am very happy with what the Supreme Court has noted. I have been saying this since the day the IPL scandal broke. Srinivasan has hijacked the BCCI and it was not possible to hold any fair investigations,” said Verma as reported by Mid-Day.

“Now that the Supreme Court has asked him to step down, I am hoping the house will be set in order soon. Thursday’s verdict would be crucial.”

Verma is also the secretary of the Cricket Association of Bihar. He had challenged the BCCI probe committee’s verdict in the Bombay High Court as it had given Gurunath Meiyappan a clean chit. Meiyappan is the son-in-law of Srinivasan and Team Principal of the Chennai Super Kings.
The Supreme Court had also said it would pass the order if Srinivasan refuses to step down. This could also prove as a hindrance to Srinivasan, who is set to become the International Cricket Council‘s (ICC’s) chief.
Verma also wants Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to be banned from the IPL. “Removing Srinivasan is the first step towards victory. The Mudgal Committee has clearly stated in its report that the owners of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were involved in betting,” said Verma.
“So, these two teams should be banned as well. I have filed a case in this regards.”
Although Verma was clear on the topic of the IPL going on. “I have nothing against the game. The IPL should be played, but in a fair manner,” Verma added.
He did not to get into details about the proceedings of the court on Tuesday.
“It is better you don’t ask me these things. It was quite bad. The court told the BCCI lawyers that there is a lot of filth in the board. And many such things which I can’t share in public.
“The court has taken a strong view of the sealed envelope. The BCCI’s integrity should be restored at any cost,” Verma concluded.
