BCCI chief N Srinivasan has declined to step down from the post of BCCI President despite the arrest of his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan by the Mumbai Police on charges of betting in Indian Premier League (IPL).

“I am not resigning now; I have not tendered resignation,” Srinivasan was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN.

Earlier in the day the BCCI chief had hinted on resigning if any evidence is found against his son-in-law.

The arrest of Meiyappan has not only posed a question on Srinivasan’s post but has also put an uncertainty over the continuation of Chennai Super Kings franchisee.  As per the IPL rulebook, a franchisee can be terminated if the ‘the Franchisee, any Franchisee Group Company and/or any Owner acts in any way which has a material adverse effect upon the reputation or standing of the League, BCCI-IPL, BCCI, the Franchisee, the Team (or any other team in the League) and/or the game of cricket.’

Meiyappan was under the radar of the Mumbai crime branch after Vindoo Dara Singh had revealed the name of the CSK CEO’s involvement in betting.
