Shahbaz Nadeem (5/60) and Samar Quadri (4/53) helped Jharkhand register a 45-run victory over Goa on the final day of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match at Keenan Stadium.

Chasing a target of 234, Goa folded for 188 as Jharkhand skipper Nadeem and leg-spinner Quadri wreaked havoc.

Jharkhand had scored 218 in their first innings before bundling out Goa for a meagre 189 and then went on to hit 204 in their second essay to set a target of 234 against the visitors.

Barring a brilliant 133-run second wicket stand between the unbeaten overnight batsmen Ryan D’Souza (83) and Vidyadhar Kamath (52), Goa kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Only other batsmen in wicketkeeper Keenan Vaz (13) and spinner Amit Yadav (14) chipped in with some runs, even as majority of them returned with a single digit score that included two ducks.

Earlier D’Souza, who was unbeaten at an overnight score of 28, and Kamath, batting on 30, began the day on a confident note and faced the host attack comfortably till Jharkhand introduced spin attack.

Quadri today drew the first blood in the 39th over when he saw off D’Souza after he notched up 83 off 105 balls, studded with twelve fours and a six.

After D’Souza’s departure, Kamath did not get adequate support at the other end and he also fell for 52 that included six hits to fence.
