With the rise of T20 cricket, there has been a massive rise in unorthodox shots being played by batsmen across the globe. Usually, a cricket fan goes mad when an elegant shot is produced by the batsman which goes for a boundary or a six. But nowadays, things are working a bit different as unusual shots have been producing such reactions where experts and fans reacts by saying, “What kind of shot was that? Or, Have you ever such type of shot?” Or perhaps, “What will you name such shot?” The list of reaction keeps going but players are doing this quite often these days.
Najibullah Zadran of the Afghanistan cricket team, recently played such a shot which left those watching speechless, during a match against UAE in Desert T20 2017 Challenge. There may be no live telecast of the tournament being played between Associate nationals but still a video surfaced, luckily., It was not the case of only those present at the venue getting to see that amazing shot. Thanks to the tournament’s official Twitter account, we got to see the brilliance of the Afghan cricketer.
Desert T20 2017: Points Table and Team Standings
It was the sixth match of the tournament, where UAE batted first and posted 146 on board. While chasing, Zadran came to the crease at the score of 114 after the fifth wicket fell. Zadran’s job was to finish the game and he did it with a single, but also hit a mind-boggling six before off Mohammad Shahzad
Do not confuse this Shahzad with Afghanistan‘s wicketkeeper. He is an UAE all-rounder, who is famous in his country for his slingy action which resembles a bit like Lasith Malinga‘s, though the speed is nowhere close to the Sri Lankan pacer.
Off the fourth delivery of 19th over, Afghanistan needed 8 from 9 balls, Shahzad bowled a delivery an outside off (had it been left, it would have been a wide). But Zadran went for his stroke, swinging his arms widely. The batsman fell while attempting to hit the ball as hard as he could, and despite losing his balance, he ensured to make it sail past the ropes.
Well that was surely something rare!
