Wicketkeeper-batsman Naman Ojha, who was supposed to lead India A in quadrangular series in Australia, has been replaced by Manish Pandey on Tuesday. Ojha has been dropped from squad and will travel to Australia only in September for four-day games. The other players who will not travel Down Under are Shahbaz Nadeem, Vijay Shankar and Akhil Herwadkar for limited-overs series. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mandeep Singh and Hardik Pandya will replace them. Pandey will lead the squad for limited-overs series while Ojha will take over for four-day match. All the four players who will not play limited-overs series Down Under, were the strength of India A and have played in conditioning camp at Natinal Cricket Academy in Bangalore earlier this month. Ojah spoke to New Indian Express and said, “Selectors have made four changes in the team (India A) and now I will go only for the four-day matches. Mera naam hatake unhone four changes kiya hai (they’ve removed me and made four changes), I was told two days ago.” ALSO READ: IND A set to tour AUS for quadrangular ODI series
The team is scheduled to leave for Australia on August 4 while coach Rahul Dravid will leave five days later. Dravid is going to spend some time with his ailing mother. India A will play against Australia A, South Africa A and Cricket Australia National Performance Squad in quadrangular series that is slated to start from August 13. India will also be playing four-day games against Australia A in Brisbane and the other will be played under lights from September 8.
