As Joe Root plays a blistering knock and remains unbeaten after stumps, Day 1 of the second Test between England and Pakistan, Nasser Hussain terms his innings ‘faultless’. After a defeat in the series opener at Lord’s, England has made a brilliant comeback as they have already put up 314 runs at stumps of Day 1 with the help of centuries from Alastair Cook and Root and they still have six wickets left which means a lot of batting to come. Root hit 18 boundaries en route to his unbeaten 141 and Nasser praised the cricketer for the way he did not involve any risk during his innings. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: Pakistan vs England 2016, 2nd Test at Old Trafford

Talking to skysports.com, Nasser said, “It was a faultless display. He decided to take all risk out of his game – when he did play the pull shot he kept it down – and play in the areas he wanted to play. He left the balls from the left-armers going across him and waited for the seamers to bowl at him, realising there was a hundred for the taking on a very good surface.”

“He has moved up to No 3 and the way he batted, he will be there for a long time to come. It’s one thing winning the toss but they then had got to go out there and play well and make up for the mistakes they made at Lord’s. A lot of fuss was made after that game – but the real issues was that a long batting line-up didn’t bat well enough, particularly against Yasir. They put that right here, with their two senior players converting starts into hundreds – in Root’s case, a big hundred.”
