Shaun Marsh and Nathan Lyon have been fined by Cricket Australia (CA) for breaching their code of conduct. The pair was fined for an incident that took place during a Sheffield Shield game between Western Australia and New South Wales recently.
Umpire Paul Wilson, a former Test cricketer, had given Marsh out leg-before to Lyon. However, Marsh instantly indicated that he had an inside edge and was unhappy about the decision. Thus, Marsh was charged with dissent.
However, Wilson realized that he had made a mistake so he called March back. This infuriated Lyon and he exchanged a few words with Marsh. Marsh then hit a four off the next delivery and that didn’t help Lyon’s mood. He also went on to kick the stumps, which were uprooted due to it. There was no hearing that was conducted. Ultimately, the two players were fined 20 percent of their match fees.
CA’s website quoted New South Wales captain Steven Smith, “I don’t think he (Lyon) touched the stump too hard. It was quite loose around that area, I think he just tapped the stump and it came out. It probably looked a little worse than what it was.”
