The biopic on India’s shorter format skipper, MS Dhoni, has once again hogged the headlines and continues to attract enormous attention. Recently, in an interview, Gautam Gambhir stated that ‘cricketers don’t deserve biopics’. Well, he also justified it by saying that Army men deserve one. His remarks created a stir on the social media and on this occasion, the director of the movie, Neeraj Pandey and the leading actor Sushant Singh Rajput has come out defending the movie. The duo said it was their right to construct movies about all genres. Gambhir also attracted some hatred from Suresh Raina, who is considered a very close friend of Dhoni.
Gambhir was compelled to lower the tonality of his remarks and Pandey feels Gambhir is not right in stating that movies should not be made on the life of cricketers or sportspersons. Pandey also stated that Dhoni has been conferred the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army long back, so Gambhir hardly has anything to complain about. Pandey feels that a filmmaker should be able to construct movies on all genres.

Pandey was quoted in a report from media saying, “I’ve made films on both. We make stories. It’s not that every film should be of a particular genre or anything like that. I think as storytellers we need to talk about everything. This story is about the hero in us. It’s a very motivational inspiring story. That can come from anyone. And MS (Dhoni) is a serving Lt Colonel in the Indian Army. So that should answer your questions.”The lead actor of the film who is playing the role of MS Dhoni also defended Dhoni and mentioned the magnificent journey he went through from a ticket collector to a World Cup winning skipper. Sushant quipped, “Films are made on stories. I have played an engineer five times in the theatre. The story was not on an engineer, but the inherent story. If the story is worth telling, then you can play anything.”
The movie is expected to hit the theatres on September 30 and has already garnered a lot attention. Dhoni and Pandey have already watched the movie and the director further exclaimed their reaction after it. “We both were silent for about ten minutes after we had seen the film. That goes to say he must have liked it. There was nothing to say,” Pandey added.
