Bhawana Ghimire, the newly appointed Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) recently said playing the Indian domestic zonal tournament, Duleep trophy is Nepal Cricket’s first priority. Last week, Ghimire was appointed as the new CEO of CAN, after International Cricket Council (ICC) had put the association on warning list of potential suspension for not having a proper administrative set up.
Ghimire, 31, an MBA from the University of Wales, has the experience of working in the Punjab International Bank of United Kingdom (UK) along with Asset and Wealth Management Company of Kuwait. She also worked for a sports management company in Bahrain where she looked after the acquisition and balance sheet of different professional football clubs. This is her first job in a cricket organisation.
“Cricket, no doubt, has evolved as a big thing in Nepal and staying in a major post of the cricket governing body is a huge challenge for me,” Ghimire told The Kathmandu Post on Saturday.
“But I will take this challenge as an opportunity and bring more professionalism in the game. A lot of problems have surfaced in Nepali cricket as the players are not satisfied and the transparency over the cricket governing body has also been questioned. I will remain firm on solving all these problems and make sure that cricket moves in a systematic and professional way,” added Ghimire.
The 31 year old from Arghakhachi who claims that she holds the vision which can shape the future of the game in Nepal, also sought support from everyone. “Holding an important position of Nepali cricket, I have to work with a vision which I have already prepared. I need support from the cricket governing body, cricketers and everyone around,” Ghimire signed off.
