Nepal Earthquake: Cricketers fraternity expresses sorrow over calamity

The earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday which resulted in more than 2,000 people losing their lives also had a huge effect on the cricket fraternity, as starting from observing silence before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 match between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab, many expressed their sorrow over the calamity.

According to IANS, the toll in the massive earthquake that devastated Nepal rose to over 2,300 on Sunday, the government said. Nepal’s ministry of home affairs said at least 2,309 people were dead, while 5,850 were injured, according to reports received till 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The worst affected districts were Kathmandu, Sindhupalchowk, Lalitpur, Gorkha and Bhaktapur. The government said search and rescue operations were on and the toll may rise further. Meanwhile, 22 bodies have been recovered from the Everest base camp after avalanches hit the world’s highest peak, the tourism ministry said on Sunday. The bodies have been brought back to Kathmandu. Similar avalanches in Everest had killed 13 people in April 2014.
