“Never going to tip against…”: Ricky Ponting’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy predictions

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting recently gave his Border-Gavaskar trophy predictions and it wasn’t a surprise when he favoured the hosts to win the 5-match Test series.
The rivalry between India and Australia has been quite one-sided in the recent years with the Men in Blue triumphing in the last 4 Border-Gavaskar series, 2 of which came in Australia itself.
However, the Aussies beat India in the ICC World Test Championship final in mid-2023 to claim the title for the second edition. The 2 teams will lock horns with qualification for the third final on the line.
While Australia have not managed to beat India at home since the 2014-15 season, Ponting believes that the tides will turn this time.
“It’s going to be a competitive series and as I said I think Australia’s got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia on the back of what’s happened the last the last two series here,” Ponting told ICC.
“We are back to five Tests as well, which is the other really important thing about this series. It’s only been four Tests the last couple of times. Five tests, I think everyone’s really excited by that and I don’t know if there’d be too many drawn games. I’m obviously going to tip Australia to win and I’m never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I’m going to say 3-1 to Australia,” Ponting added.
