Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins reflected on the team’s sixth loss of this IPL season on Wednesday at their home ground in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium against Mumbai Indians (MI) and said ” Never got going”.
Mumbai Indians restricted SRH at 143/6 in their 20 overs. SRH got off to a disappointing start, as they were 35/5 after 8.3 overs, However, a crucial 99-run partnership between Henrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar, helped Hyderabad reach a modest total of 143 runs.
Klaasen was the top scorer for SRH as he smashed 71 off 44 deliveries, including nine boundaries and two sixes. Manohar contributed a valuable 43 runs off 37 balls, including two fours and three sixes.
Speaking after the match, Cummins appreciated the both Klaasen and Manohar,”Klaasen and Abhinav did well for us to get to a total,” he said.
However, the SRH skipper reflected on team’s poor start, “Never got going. After a couple of wickets, you have to find a way to steady the ship. Couldn’t do that,” he admitted.
When asked about the challenge of setting a high total on the Hyderabad pitch, Cummins explained that while the surface was playable, it demanded a more tactical approach with the bat.
“We spoke about the pitch before the match. You’re allowed to bowl a good over, build your innings and you can catch up. You have to start 0 for 0, it’s about assessing the pitch each time you play,” Cummins said
As SRH continue to slip further in the tournament, Cummins looked determined at the road ahead, “Hasn’t worked out so far. We have a few away games now. It’s about assessing each wicket quickly,” he concluded.
