New Zealand 28/0 at tea in 2nd Test, Day 5 at Perth vs Australia; Need 293 more runs to win

Australia had earlier set New Zealand a target of 321 after they declared at 385 for 7.

New Zealand go to tea at 24 for no loss and are still 281 runs away from securing an improbable win in the second Test, Day Five at Perth. Ausralia have bowled out for 385 for 7 in their second innings, setting new Zealand a target of 321 to win off 48 overs. Openers Tom Latham and Martin Guptill are still batting and will look to continue playing well in the upcoming session as well. Australia will look to make inroads in the New Zealand innings and put them under pressure.Iit is unlikely that New Zealand will go on to win this game but they can certainly give Australia a run for their money with batsmen like Kane Williamson, Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor to follow. Steven Smith and Adam Voges scored a century to guide Australia t an excellent position in the match after they lost their openers Joe Burns and in form David Warner cheaply. Voges and Smith then put on 224 for the third wicket, which got Australia back into the match. Bit both the set batsmen were dismissed early on Day Five. peter Nevill batted well with the tail to help Australia completely take the game away from the Black Caps. Before start of play on Day Five, fast bowler Mitchell Johnson announced his retirement from international cricket. The Perth Test will be Johnson’s last match in international cricket. He scored 29 with the bat to help his team’s cause in his final Test innings. On Day One, Australia had won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted a mammoth 559 for 9 decl, courtesy of a double century from Warner and a ton from Usman Khawaja. new Zealand took a 65-run lead thanks to 290 from Ross Taylor and 166 from Kane Williamson. Australia lead the series 1-0, with the final Test scheduled to be played at Adelaide.

On Day One, Australia skipper Smith won the toss and elected to bat first. Australia have dominated the series with the bat so far and will be looking to do the same in the series decider at Adelaide.
