New Zealand announce squad for World T20 2014

Feb 16, 2014
New Zealand have announced their 15-member squad for the World Twenty20 (T20) starting on March 23, 2014. Left-arm off-spinner Ronnel Hira, pacer Trent Boult and batsman Anton Devcich have been included in the 15-member squad.
“As we saw when New Zealand toured Bangladesh in October, the pitches will be slow and likely to turn. Consequently we were looking for batsmen who can play spin well as well as some more spin bowling options. Anton gives us both top and middle order batting options as well as spin. He performed well on the tour to Bangladesh and the New Zealand A tour to India and Sri Lanka before that,” New Zealand’s General Manager National selection Bruce Edgar was quoted as saying by the official website of New Zealand cricket.
“And Ronnie is an experienced Twenty20 spin bowler. He’s an excellent fieldsman and he had a very good HRV Twenty20 with Canterbury,” he added.

After a 4-0 victory against India in the recently-concluded One-Day International (ODI) series, caoch Mike Hesson was confident of the squad doing well. “The goal for us is simply to keep to the same preparation that served us well over the summer and not get ahead of ourselves,” he said.
