New Zealand’s coach Mike Hesson along with batting coach Craig McMillan and manager Mike Sandle have extended their contract with New Zealand cricket team until 2019. The team’s strength and conditioning coach Chris Donaldson has also extended his contract with New Zealand. Hesson was appointed as head coach on July 20, 2012 replacing John Wright. Despite being involved in controversial start with Ross Taylor incident as he was removed from captaincy and Brendon McCullum took over, Hesson has helped New Zealand break the ice and help his side finish as runners-up in ICC World Cup 2015 against Australia in final. New Zealand also landed as semi-finalists in the recently concluded ICC World T20 2016. ALSO READ: Mike Hesson: Pakistan is an unpredictable side

New Zealand cricket’s chief executive David White has considered this move positive and mentioned how important it was to have Hesson along with New Zealand who have provided immense success. White added, “This is very positive in terms of our succession planning; our preparation for the major events on the horizon and, not least, general team stability. It was really important for us to retain the intellectual property and institutional knowledge that these people have developed. Mike Hesson is the most successful coach in New Zealand cricket history and, in my opinion, the best selector we’ve ever had. To have him committed to the BLACKCAPS until after the next world cup is great news for all concerned.”

Speaking about the developments of the team, Hesson said working with a familiar group with a common goal for the New Zealand cricket team would be extremely rewarding for his side, as reported on cricbuzz.com. Hesson said, “Being around a group which works together and is striving to head in the same direction is extremely rewarding. It’s a privilege to be a part of the BLACKCAPS culture and I feel lucky to be able to contribute to that for a little bit longer. We have a new leader in Kane Williamson, which will bring some changes and that’s something to be excited by, too. Kane has his own style and philosophy, but it’s also important that he has the support which allows him and the team to thrive. New Zealand next schedule includes touring to Africa to play against Zimbabwe and South Africa in July-August that consists of two Tests each.
