Indian origin spinner New Zealand spinner Tarun Nethula is likely to miss the second Test match against South Africa, which starts on March 15 at the Seddon Park in Hamilton.
The pitch at the Seddon Park is green-tinged and it is likely to suit fast bowlers, which means coach John Wright and skipper Ross Taylor will have to make a hard call regarding the off-spinner.
“I don’t think it’s a raging turner. He (Nethula) may get a game, but to be honest after seeing the pitch yesterday it may have to change a little bit,” Wright told reporters.
The groundsman at the Seddon Park, Karl Johnson informed that the pitch will offer some movement off the seam and bounce early on and is not expected to deteriorate.
Nethula’s diminishing chances means Brent Arnel and Mark Gillespie will battle for a place in the side.
“Arnel has made good progress this year, he’s solid, we know he’ll be consistent and Gillespie is someone we know who is a wicket-taker. We’ll just look at the balance – we’ve got to concentrate on trying to taking 20 wickets and that looks the real challenge.
“It’ll boil down to what conditions look like and who we think will suit this wicket best,” Wright was quoted as saying by MSN.
