Jeet Raval, the New Zealand Test opener, has signed for Yorkshire for the remainder of the 2018 English county season.
Raval, who has played 11 Test matches, will begin his stint as batting cover for his New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson who is currently nursing a bruised finger.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to get this opportunity. Hopefully I will be able to contribute in a positive way,” said the 29-year-old of his first opportunity with an English club.
Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire’s director of cricket, said of Raval’s signing: “Kane has spoken highly of Jeet. We look forward to him joining.”
Yorkshire next play Worcestershire at Scarborough in the County Championship from August 19, followed by fixtures against Somerset, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire, Hampshire and Worcestershire running into the last week of September. The club is currently at fifth place in Division One.
In his most recent competitive cricket, which was the Test series at home against England in March, Raval made 4, 5 and 17 to follow a Plunket Shield run in which he managed 232 runs in 12 innings for an average of 19.33 with a solitary half-century.
