New Zealand are set to appoint the 21-year-old Kane Williamson as captain for their upcoming series against the West Indies after Ross Taylor was ruled out due to shoulder injury and Brendon McCullum being rested.

“He was obviously very nervous and he only had a day to prepare for it. I thought his bowling changes were very good and he went with his gut – that’s quite often what you have to do,” Taylor said, backing Williamson’s leadership skills.

“He showed promising signs and the team got in behind him,” Taylor was quoted as saying by nzherald.

Williamson made his Test debut against India at Ahmedabad in 2010. He has played 12 Tests for his country, scoring 721 runs at a healthy average of more than 36. He has two centuries and four half-centuries to his name.
