New Zealand‘s tally in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 now reads two wins in two matches after they beat minnows Scotland by three wickets in the Pool A clash at Dunedin. This win will bode well in New Zealand’s hopes to qualify for the next stage of the World Cup. With this win, New Zealand move to the top spot in the Points Table of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. After bowling Scotland out for 142, New Zealand were keen to run through the runs in quick time and were aggressive right from the onset. However, no batsman really hit it off, and gifted some wickets to Scottish bowlers but due to the small nature of the target, they were never really in serious trouble. To their credit, the Scottish bowlers bowled very well, exploiting the movement on offer to get the wickets. Ian Wardlaw in particular was very accurate and used his experience with Scotland and English county side Yorkshire to take the three wickets of Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum and Grant Elliott. Josh Davey also capitalised on the New Zealand batsmen’s intention to finish it off hurriedly and picked the wickets of Kane Williamson, Luke Ronchi and Corey Anderson, giving New Zealand a real scare towards the end, but the New Zealand tail-enders saw the hosts over the line with three wickets to spare in the end.

In the first innings, Scotland put up a poor show with the bat. Apart from Richie Berrington and Matt Machan, no batsmen was able to stand up to some amazing bowling from the Kiwis. Trent Boult and Tim Southee began proceedings in emphatic fashion, reducing Scotland to 12 for four up front.

But Machan and Berrington and played resolutely to stitch a 97-run partnership with both batsmen getting individual half centuries. However, they lost their wickets to Anderson soon after reaching their respective milestones attempting to pull the short ball. The Scottish tail-enders didn’t show too much of a fight.

Scotland 142 in 36.2 overs (Matt Machan 56, Richie Berrington 50; Corey Anderson 3 for 18) lost to New Zealand 146 for  in 24.5 overs (Kane Williamson 38; Josh Davey 3 for 40, Ian Wardlaw 3 for 57) by 3 wickets.
