Though South Africa have prepared themselves well for the upcoming three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand starting in Tauranga on Tuesday, their coach Russell Domingo has labelled the home team a “tough outfit”.
Sport24 quoted him, as saying that he was expecting a competitive series regardless of the gap between the sides in terms of ICC ODI rankings. Domingo was speaking after the squad’s first training session at the Bay Oval on Thursday afternoon.
He said that New Zealand has beaten the South Africans on 16 occasions in home conditions, while the latter have won only eight times. This, he said, is a clear indication of how difficult New Zealand are to beat at home.
He also said that every game leading up to next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is going to be very important for his side. Domingo stressed on the need for having a settled and confident side when “we get to the event.”
