MI NEW York became the inaugural Major League Cricket champions after they defeated Seattle Orcas in a thrilling final. Skipper Nicholas Pooran played one of the best T20 innings, smashing 137 in 55 balls, with 13 sixes, to help the team make a mockery of a 184-run target.

Earlier, a blistering 87 by Quinton De Kock helped Orcas to an above-average total of 183-9. Meanwhile, Nita Ambani’s reaction to MI New York’s win is going viral on social media.

Topsy Turvy Ride For MI New York

MI New York’s journey to the final was not smooth as the team had average outings in the league stage. They managed to qualify on account of a better run rate than San Francisco Unicons, having lost three of the five games. MI, however, came out all guns blazing in the playoffs, beating Washington Freedom in Eliminator, Texas Super Kings in Challenger, and Orcas in the final.

Nicholas Pooran Opens Up On Record-Breaking Century

Speaking on his record-breaking innings, Nicholas Pooran said that he kept things simple and backed his skills.

“Chatting today we spoke about creating history. We lost our captain, and a couple of players. At the end of the day I am proud as everyone contributed. We knew it was a good batting wicket, we were prepared for this moment from a week ago,” Pooran said at post-match presentation.

“We had to be confident and believe in each other. We got over the line today, we were been put under pressure earlier this week. You are going to bat like Nicky P, I told myself, and backed my skill. I just had to execute my skills, I have been working on it since the last 5-6 years. It was really special for me. I just want to thank all the fans and supporters, they have been really amazing,” he added.
