INDIA captain Rohit Sharma opened up on team’s selection for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup which will be played later this year in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India respectively.
India are struggling to find a batter for the No. 4 slot, something that has also troubled them in the previous edition in 2019 in England.
As per the recent reports, injured Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul will be fit for the upcoming tournaments but their form will be the major concern for the Men In Blue.
Rohit Sharma revealed that nobody will be the automatic choice for the team India in upcoming tournaments.
“Shreyas and KL are coming off not playing anything for four months, big injuries, surgeries rather. Both had surgeries. I know, I had to undergo surgery once and how it feels afterwards, it is quite tough. We have to see, how they respond, what they do,” Rohit Sharma said on the sidelines of a La Liga event in Mumbai.
“The selection (meeting) will be there in a few days, we will have a good debate about what we can do. But honestly, nobody is an automatic choice – they all have to fight for the spot – everyone has to, whether it is a top spot or a bottom spot,” he stated.
“We have got a lot of names there. We will see what is the right combination for us to go in the World Cup but before we have the Asia Cup,” the India skipper said.
‘It’s A Dream To Win A World Cup’, Says Rohit Sharma Ahead Of ODI World Cup
Skipper Rohit Sharma on Thursday said India are “desperate” to break their ICC trophy drought in the upcoming World Cup and are armed with “inner “confidence” and “self-belief” to win the title.
India have gone without a trophy in ICC events for a decade now, with their last major win coming in the Champions Trophy 2013, two years after their World Cup triumph at home.
“Honestly, I have never won a (50 overs) World Cup, it’s a dream to win a World Cup and to be here fighting for it nothing makes me happier than that,” Rohit told the media here on the sidelines of an event.
“You don’t get World Cups on a platter, you have to really work hard and that is what we have been doing all these years from 2011 till now we all are fighting for it,” the India captain said.

“Everyone is desperate to go and win, because we know we have a good team. We are all good players, that inner confidence and self-belief is there that they can do it. It’s not happened doesn’t mean that we take it lightly. When we lost the 2022 World Cup, I said we will keep fighting for the next World Cup,” he added.
