Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav failed to deliver a good performance with the bat in the ongoing T20I series against England. He could only manage to score 14 runs off 7 balls as the team lost the 3rd match of the series on January 28.
England legend Michael Vaughan criticised Suryakumar Yadav’s batting and advised him to chose when to be aggressive and when to be calm with his approach. Vaughan wishes for the Indian captain to go with a more calculated approach on the pitch before he decides to shift to aggressive mode.
Michael believes that Suryakumar’s approach from the outset has proved to be a disadvantageous, which has also continued with his struggle in the ongoing T20I series against England.
With India currently leading the five-match series 2-1, concerns over his form have increased. The batter failed to make any big impact so far in the series, with scores od 0, 12 and 14 in the first 3 matches. His dismissals have mainly resulted from wrongly-times shots, which have either edged the ball to the keeper or sent the ball to air, resulting in the ball being caucht.
“It’s a few times on the trot where he’s been getting out to quite soft dismissals. When you say be aggressive all the time, it’s choosing the right ball to be aggressive to. Clearly you can’t hit every single ball to the boundary and some of these players in this era, they’ve got so much skill and talent that they think they can. It’s just not possible,” Vaughan said in an interview with Cricbuzz.
“For India to come back, and I’m sure they will, they’re not going to play any worse, I can’t imagine in a few days time, but it will need maybe Sky (Suryakumar Yadav) just saying, ‘okay, I just need to about 15 balls to give myself in, get myself in, look at the dimensions of the ground’. He’s got the game to just go and explode into the boundary hitting mode that wind that we know that he can,” Vaughan further added.
India’s batting has been up to the expectations in the ongoing series so far. While the individual performances of Abhishek Sharma in the first T20I and Tilak Varma’s match-winning in the second have won India the matches, the overall performance has been down.

The third T20I in Rajkot revealed the flaws in Indian batting. Important players like Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma all ailed to perform well. Apart from Hardik Pandya, who sored 40 off 35 balls, no other batter could change the innings.
