Playing against Northamptonshire in North Group of Royal London One-Day Cup at Trent Bridge, the Nottinghamshire batsmen went ballistic, registering a monstrous 445 for 8 in 50 overs. While Michael Lumb (184) and Riki Wessels (146) were the main architects, there were some breezy cameos from Nottinghamshire captain Daniel Christian, Samit Patel, and Brendan Taylor. Nottinghamshire’s humongous total took them past Sri Lanka’s 443 for 9, scored against Netherlands at Amstelveen back in 2006. However, they fell substantially short of the highest List A score in history — 496 for 4 by Surrey against Gloucestershire at The Oval in 2007. Note:
– Of the top 10, as many as 5 have occurred in the same match, 4 in English domestic cricket, and 1 in an ‘A’ match.
– Of the top 10, New Wanderers and The Oval have 3 entries each. Both South Africa (Pretoria) and England (Trent Bridge) have another entry.
– 7 of the matches involve either South Africa or Surrey. South Africa feature thrice and Surrey twice in the list among the top-scorers, while they also feature once each in the ‘against’ column.
– However, the most astonishing fact is perhaps that many as 5 entries are in ‘away’ venues.
