Rohit Sharma is the captain of Indian cricket team, and is leading the side to a tremendous Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, qualifying for the semifinals against Australia as of now. Amidst this, the spokesperson of Indian National Congress, Shama Mohamed stirred some controversy when she shared a humiliating social media post on the Indian captain and fat-shamed him.
She has received heavy criticism from fans, then members of the Bhartiya Janta Party. Now, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh has taken shots towards the congress member.
“Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had,” Shama Mohamed had written in her post, which is now deleted from Twitter (now called X).
In an interaction with ANI, Yograj said that Shama should be ashamed for her comment, adding that criticising and attacking on one’s own player is something that happens only in Pakistan. Yograj even said that if he were the Prime Minister, he would ask the Congress member to leave the country.
“Indian cricketers, people and the land are more dear to me than my own life. If someone in the political system makes such a statement about a player who has brought pride to our nation, that person should be ashamed,” Yograj said.
“I feel so sad. These things happen in Pakistan,” he added.
“If I were the prime minister, I would have said, pack your bags and leave the country,” he further said.
