Thisara Perera picked up four wickets and effected a run-out to guide Sri Lanka to a 44-run win over Pakistan in the second One Day International at Colombo.
After losing two wickets with 53 runs on board Pakistan found a much needed solid partnership in Misbah-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali. However the duo failed to gather quick runs as the run-rate kept on mounting.
The Pakistan skipper departed in the 38th over having added 103 runs in 143 balls with Azhar.
Soon after, a pathetic display of batting saw Pakistan batsmen falling one after the other handing Thisara Perera his first hat-trick in international cricket with wickets of Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi and Sarfaraz Ahmed. A dismal scorecard of the visitors featured six ducks in the innings which lasted for 45 overs.
Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene won toss and opted to bat first. Both teams came into the match with unchanged sides.
Led by Kumar Sangakarra’s resilient 97, Sri Lanka posted a competitive 243 for eight in their allotted 50 overs against Pakistan in the fourth One-Day International (ODI) at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals till the time skipper Mahela Jayawardane came to the crease. He, along with Sangakkara stitched a valuable 110 run partnership for the fourth wicket.
The series is currently tied with both teams having won one match each.
Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 243 for 8 (Kumar Sangakkara 97, Mahela Jayawardane 40; Mohammad Hafeez 2 for 37, Sohail Tanvir 2 for 43) beat Pakistan 199 all-out (Azhar Ali 81, Misbah ul haq 57; Thisara Perera 4 for 42, Lasith Malinga 2 for 30) by 44 runs
