Pakistan captain Shan Masood stated him supporting the decision of team management to drop Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah from the 2nd Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. Both of them were included in the first test of the series. Coming out to be what is a surprising move, Pakistan decided to play the second Test without their fast bowlers. While Shaheen was given some time to work on his captaincy, Naseem Shah being excluded from the second Test came out to be a big surprise.
Both Shaheen and Naseem have been considered to be premier bowlers for Pakistan in all formats. However their performances have shown a downfall in the recent years.
After the defeat of Pakistan in the second Test against Bangladesh, captain Shan Masood expressed in the ability of his team learning from their mistakes and to make a comeback. He put emphasis on the importance on consistency of the selection process for success in future.
“Like I said, it’s never doom and gloom. You always keep trying, you always come back. You always learn from your mistakes and you try and give people a chance. And I think that we’re heading in the right direction. We have been consistent with selection, we had Khurram, Mohammad Ali, and Mir Hamza play this Test series,” said Shan Masood.
Masood spoke on the reason behind excluding Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah from the match. He put emphasis that being an all-format bowler, it is necessary to give rest to them. He also put stress on importance of developing their bowling for the future.

“We are trying to keep consistency with red ball performances as well. We’ve got Shaheen (Afridi) and Naseem (Shah) back in the fold as well. We can’t be harsh on them because they’re playing all three formats. If Shaheen has played consistently for a year, you can’t just throw them in every game. And you have to build up your stocks as well. So we’ve got a lot to look at,” Masood added.
