Just a day before Australian vice-captain, David Warner, was hit by Josh Hazlewood delivery during Australia’s intra-practice match, Pakistan‘s young cricketer, Zubair Ahmed, lost his life being hit by a bouncer in a game in Mardan (Pakistan). The young cricketer played List A matches along with representing T20 team Quetta Bears. To add to the dismay, the tragic incident happened on Pakistan’s 71st Independence on 14th August (Monday). PCB shared a message and cautioned cricketers about the significance of wearing a helmet at all times.

This is not the first such instance of a player losing his/her life due to lack of safety guards worn while batting. However, such things seem to be on the rise ever since Australia’s Phillip Hughes lost his life in November 2014 during a Sheffield Shield match. Hughes, despite wearing a helmet, got hit in the neck causing a vertebral artery dissection, thereby leading to subarachnoid haemorrhage. As a result, he never regained consciousness and succumbed to injuries.
Zulfiqar Bhatti, Raman Lamba, George Summers are one of the few unlucky cricketers to have passed away falling prey to injuries on the field.
