Pakistan’s 75 top cricketers, barring Shahid Afridi and Wahab Riaz are set to participate in Pakistan Cup 2016 that will kick off on April 19 in Faisalabad. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chose to include spot fixing guilty players like Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif but they let Afridi out. The Pakistan Cup is a five-team One-Day tournament based on the draft system and will include teams from the country’s four provinces and a Federal Capital side, PCB announced on Monday. Sarfraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Azhar Ali and Misbah-Ul-Haq will lead the sides from Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Federal Capital respectively. The draft will consist of 150 players and the teams will be selected by the captain and coach through a draft. The squads will have a total of 15 members.

According to pakobserver.net, PCB Chairman Executive Committee, Najam Sethi has suggested that the main agenda behind this tournament is the revive fan engagement in domestic cricket. “Our public loves cricket and we are trying to further elevate our product. There is greater involvement of senior cricketers with the Draft process in place. Players will also receive a 100% increase in remuneration and the support staff is very experienced. We are celebrating unity in diversity and I urge the fans to come and watch these matches in the stadium,” he added.
