Pakistan have made a change in their management as former wicketkeeper-batsman Wasim Bari replaces Intikhab Alam as team manager. This decision was taken following a controversy during Pakistan’s tour of England. Bari will join Pakistan team as manager in UAE against touring side West Indies starting September 23. Alam’s contract with PCB will mature this month only as he will be relieved of his position. However, his exclusion maybe a result of the controversy in England when he allowed bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed’s family to shift in Ifthikhar Ahmed’s room. His action forced Ifthikhar to shift into fellow player Mohammad Rizwan’s room.
PCB official told ESPNcricinfo, “Intikhab Alam’s contract with PCB as team manager is concluding this month.PCB would like to express its thanks and appreciation to Mr. Alam for his contribution to the Pakistan cricket team. The team has received a lot of plaudits for their conduct on the recent tour of England and were appreciated as positive ambassadors of their country. Mr. Alam’s role as head of the Pakistan contingent was key to the PCB’s efforts to ensure an incident-free tour of England”.
Both the managers, former and present have been active participants in PCB after retiring. Bari has been the chief selector and director of PCB’s human resource whereas Alam has been the manager, selector and coach of Pakistan team. Bari has played 81 Tests and 51 ODIs scoring 1,366 and 221 runs in respective formats. Whereas Alam has played 47 Tests and four ODIs for Pakistan and scored 1,493 and 17 runs respectively.
