Pakistan vs Australia 2nd Test: Mark Nicholas advised rest after being discharged from hospital

Reports say that Mark Nicholas was sweating profusely and struggling before he was rushed to the hospital by the paramedics.

Commentator Mark Nicholas, who was rushed to the hospital on Monday, has been advised to take rest. As a result, Nicholas was not part of the commentary team on Day Two of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and Pakistan. Nicholas has, however, been discharged from the hospital. Nicholas is believed to have suffered an abdominal pain, and hence had to be rushed to the hospital soon after the lunch interval. He was later reported to be in a stable condition. Australia had reduced Pakistan to 142 for 4 on Day One, before rain stopped play. Rain has played a major role on the second day as well. But Pakistan have consolidated their place, thanks to a superb ton from Azhar Ali.

Reports say that Nicholas was sweating profusely and struggling before he was rushed to the hospital by the paramedics. A Channel Nine spokesperson told theguardian.com, “While he wants to return to the Nine Commentary team [on Tuesday], his bosses have insisted on a day’s rest. He has again thanked everyone for their good wishes and support.” Fellow commentator and former Australian cricketer Michael Slater confirmed this news during the tea interval on Day One. “Normally, Mark Nicholas would be sitting here at this time of the day,” Slater said.

“Just to let you know, he’s fallen ill with abdominal pains, and he’s been taken to hospital for testing. I’m aware it is out there online, so we will keep you up-to-date with the latest news when we receive it. So we wish him well,” Slater added.
