Pakistan require another 19 runs with 8 wickets in hand to win the first Test against West Indies at Sabina Park, Kinston. Chasing a meagre 32, Pakistan lost both their openers Ahmed Shehzad (6) and Azhar Ali (1) against Shannon Gabriel and Alzarri Joseph, as Babar Azam and Younis Khan held the fort at lunch. Earlier, Yasir Shah took 6 for 63 in the second innings against West Indies bowling out the hosts for 152. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Pakistan vs West Indies 2017, 1st Test at Jamaica
Resuming from the overnight score of 93 for 4, nightwatchman Devendra Bishoo and Vishaul Singh took optimistic approach against Yasir. Given the success the wily spinner had enjoyed on Day Four, Misbah-ul-Haq resorted to keeping Yasir from one end changing his pacers from the other. But in a bid to get the drift off the rough patches from the wicket, Yasir kept on pitching the ball wide and gave away too many runs. But Mohammad Aamer, who had taken 6 wickets in the first innings, broke the deadlock dismissing Vishaul (9).
Roston Chase tried building the fallen West Indies innings along with Bishoo, but debutant Mohammad Abbas struck gold in his one over dismissing Bishoo (18) and Shane Dowrich (0) in a matter of 2 deliveries. Jason Holder (14) could not view his magic from the first innings as he, too, fell prey against the disciplined Wahab Riaz.
Mishab then got Yasir back in the attack. He successfully got the last two wickets of Joseph (1) and Gabriel (0) in a matter of 3 deliveries.
Pakistan had a slender job of chasing the target of 35, but Gabriel and Joseph got the wickets of both the Pakistan opener giving their team a slight chance of hope.
But Babar and Younis played the rest of the first session and went into lunch at 13 for 2 with 9 runs needed to go one-up in this first of the three-Test series.
Brief scores:
Pakistan 407 & 13 for 2 (Ahmed Shehzad 6, Babar Azam 4*; Alzarri Joseph 1 for 6, Shannon Gabriel 1 for 7) trail West Indies 286 and 152 (Kieran Powell 49, Devendra Bishoo 18; Yasir Shah 6 for 63, Mohammad Abbas 2 for 35) by 19 runs.
