Asad Shafiq completed his 3,000 Test runs in his career in the second Test against West Indies which is being played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Having played 46 Test matches, Shafiq has been amongst the consistent Test players for Pakistan. He has a good average of 42.65 in his Test career so far and has the highest score of 137. Shafiq is currently playing a very important innings against West Indies as he has completed his fifty after both Pakistani openers Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam were dismissed cheaply in the first session of the second Test. Shafi has also become the sixth fastest Pakistani batsman to reach the milestone of 3,000 plus runs in juts 75 innings making him one of the best batsman of the current Pakistan Test side. In a bid to resurrect the fallen Pakistan innings, Shafiq is playing an anchor role in the partnership of 68 runs off 120 deliveries. Later spinner Devendra Bishoo dismissed opener Sami Aslam putting the hosts Pakistan in a spot of bother as they were left with the score of 42 runs for the loss of two wickets. Shafiq played an important role in the first session as he completed his half-century while he was receiving a useful contribution from veteran batsman Younus Khan who was left out of the first Test after being diagnosed with the flu just before the first Test.
In this three-match Test series, Pakistan are already leading the series as they won the first Test which was also a day-night Test which was played with the pink-ball by a margin of 56 runs. Pakistan will be looking to win this match and clinch the series beforehand while visitors West Indies will be looking to regain at least some pride by winning the first ever competition for the time they have landed in the UAE. West Indies have already suffered two white-washes against Pakistan in the One-Day International (ODI) series and Twenty20 International series.
