Mohammad Aamer‘s injury surely was one of the biggest blows for Pakistan in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. However, it probably turned to a blessing in disguise for the hosts, as Aamer’s replacement, a 23-year-old Usman Khan picked up 4 wickets in his first three overs. He bagged a total of 5 wickets in first five overs of his spell, reducing Sri Lanka to 20 for 5. Following the amazing spell of the left-arm pacer, Twitter was flooded with praises of the bowler. On his debut, he had picked up one wicket only, that of opponent captain Upul Tharanga.
Since Chaminda Vaas, who bagged a fifer off 16 deliveries, Usman picked up the fastest fifer in ODIs since 2001. ICC tweeted about it, along with a video of Vaas’ spell:
21 balls it took @Usmanshinwari6 for his fifer – only two have done it faster since 2001, Vaas in 2003 against Bangladesh taking just 16! pic.twitter.com/IkEaEgyx9s
