Himachal Pradesh’s Pankaj Jaiswal entered Ranji Trophy record books on Day Three of Round 2 of the 84th edition of India’s premier domestic competition. Jaiswal playing against Goa, hit a 16-ball 50, which is the second fastest in First-Class cricket.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandeep Singh holds the record for the fastest FC fifty; he reached the milestone in 15-balls against Tripura in 2015. Jaiswal’s innings came to an end on 63 off 20 balls inclusive of four boundaries and seven sixes. It must also be known that Jaiswal bats at No.9.

The fastest-ever fifty in the sport belongs to India’s Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj struck his fifty in merely 12 balls against England in the inaugural ICC World T20 in 2007. His knock included 6 sixes in an over off Stuart Broad as well. Chris Gayle also has a 12-ball fifty for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Khalid Mahmood of Pakistan too has a FC fifty in 15-balls. His knock came for Gujranwala against Sargodha in 2000-01 season.

It might also be noted that Jim Smith’s twin fifties in Middlesex’s tie against Gloucestershire might have taken 12 balls each in 1938 County season (dubious because no official records took place before that).
